Avtozavodskaya CHPP is the biggest power and heat generating facility in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The plant supplies heat and electricity to a large part of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, including residential areas and industrial facilities.

Main parameters:

  • Installed power capacity: 505 MW
  • Installed heat capacity: 2,226 Gcal/h
  • Fuel: natural gas

The Avtozavodskaya CHPP was built in 1931 to provide electric power to the Gorky Automobile Plant. It was originally designated as Gorky State District Power Plant No. 7 (GRES-7). Over time, the plant was retrofitted and expanded to meet the growing needs of the city and its industrial complex.

It is the largest power plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region in terms of installed electric power and heat capacity. The Dzerzhinskaya CHPP has the same electric power capacity as the Avtozavodskaya CHPP, but it trails significantly in terms of heat output.

Over the years, the Avtozavodskaya CHPP has been re-equipped several times. New turbines, boilers and other equipment were installed, making electric power and heat generation more efficient and improving the environment performance. In 2024, capital repairs of turbine unit No. 10 were completed at the Avtozavodskaya CHPP. The project was carried out as part of retrofitting programme by En+.
