En+ Group, the world’s leading producer of low-carbon aluminium and largest private sector generator of hydropower, announces that a further five of the Group’s aluminium smelters have successfully been certified to meet the standards of the international Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).
Bratsk aluminum smelter (BrAZ), Boguchansky aluminum smelter (BoAZ), Krasnoyarsk aluminum smelter (KrAZ), KUBAL (Kubikenborg aluminum AB) and Sayanogorsk aluminum smelter (SAZ) have now been ASI certified following independent audits for their compliance with the ASI Performance and ASI Chain of Custody standards. The audits were carried out by DNV GL, an international accredited registrar and classification society headquartered in Høvik, Norway.
The ASI standards were developed to enable the aluminium industry to demonstrate responsibility and provide independent and credible assurance of their sustainability performance. Internationally recognized, they are also the only standards that confirm compliance with the sustainable development goals. The ASI Performance Standard measures 11 groups of criteria relating to economic, social and environmental outcomes. The ASI Chain of Custody standard was designed specifically for the aluminum industry.
Lord Barker, Executive Chairman of En+ Group, said:
"En+ Group is committed to making a meaningful contribution to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. It is important not only that we produce a sustainable product, but that we do this in the most responsible way possible; protecting our environment and our people, and supporting economic development across our regions of presence. This ASI certification is just one result of our ongoing work to improve the quality and transparency of our operations."
In 2019, En+ Group received ASI certification for smelters including Boksit Timana the Ural aluminium smelter (UAZ) and Irkutsk aluminium smelter (IrkAZ). The Group is continuing with the process of ASI certification for the Metal segment’s remaining enterprises.
