Water management and stewardship form a key part of En+ Group’s business model, and minimizing the Group’s impact on water resources is core to its environmental protection strategy. The Company’s key investment project, the “New Energy” Hydropower Plant Modernization Program targets the increased efficiency of water usage by increasing power generation while using the same amount of water, and simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions. The Group is also a leading advocate for the preservation of the world’s largest fresh water lake, Baikal, running extensive preservation programmes and scientific studies to better understand factors affecting the lake’s ecosystem. The endorsement of the CEO Water Mandate initiative follows the Group’s decision to join the UN Global Compact in July 2019, aligning its activities to UNGC’s ten core principles on human rights, labour, environment and anticorruption.

Lord Barker, Executive Chairman of En+ Group, commented:

“We are delighted to endorse the UNGC’s CEO Water Mandate. As the largest global independent hydropower generator, harnessing the potential of the world’s largest freshwater reservoir, Lake Baikal, sustainable and responsible water management is at the core of the Group. We look forward to collaborating with global leaders on this important issue and expanding the scope and geographical reach of our research to help address the issues around water and sanitation globally.”
