The Irkutsk Aluminium Smelter produced its first primary aluminium in 1962. The Irkutsk HPP provides the aluminium smelter's power.

The aluminium smelter became part of RUSAL in 2007. Since then, it has undergone significant modernisation. The company has launched its fifth potline using pre-baked anodes and commissioned a new casthouse. The smelter has established the production of high-tech wire rod and next-generation alloys used in the transport and construction industries.

The Irkutsk Aluminium Smelter offers over 100 types of aluminium alloys and over 50 types of wire rod. High-value-added products make up 65% of the smelter's output.

In 2015, IrkAz began implementing its Green Soderberg project. This project involved converting the first, third and fifth potlines at the plant to this technology. As a result, pollutant emissions were reduced by 30%.

Development plans

Further implementation of the Green Soderberg technology; re-equipment of gas treatment facilities; and an increase in the proportion of high-value-added products in the overall output.
